Hello, my name is Georgios Kalomiros, but many of my friends call me George. Currently, I am employed full-time by Juniper Networks as a software engineer in their security engineering department. More specificly, I am a tools engineer. In non-technical terms, my job is like this: Imagine your job. Now imagine all the tedious, mind-numbing tasks you do every day. Also imagine all the repetitive tasks you do that take up a lot of your time every day. Now imagine someone comes along, looks at those tasks and introduces you to a personal servant who will do those tasks for you every day, freeing your time for the more interesting aspects of your job. That is what I do. I spend my time writing programs for my department that automate the repetitive tasks they do, freeing them up to spend their time doing more challenging tasks. Its a great job. My "customers" appreciate me because I make their jobs more satisfying. My managers love me because I make their employees more productive, and I love my job because I get to do something I love, programming, without feeling like just a cog in a corporate machine. Previous full-time positions I have held include: programming for Cisco Systems in Milpitas, Legato Systems in Palo Alto, and Mediaplex in Cupertino.

I am also a night student at San Jose State University. At the college, I am completing my undergraduate degree in business administration, concentrating in management information systems. I have earned several certifications and associates degrees from De Anza College, including AA's in systems programming, network programming, and business programming. I originally was a computer science major, but after some thought, I decided that, as a business programmer, I would be better served by taking business classes for my lower division than by taking two years of calculus and physics.

I am skilled in a number of technical arenas as well. I have experience in Internet programming, server programming, applications programming, system administration, and web development. Programming-wise, I am most proficient in PERL, but I am also skilled in a number of other languages such as C, C++, Java, Python, JavaScript, and mark-up and related languages like HTML, XHTML, XML, and CSS. I am equally comfortable with UNIX, Linux, and Windows platforms.
